- Description
- As Wicca, Neo-paganism, Witchcraft and other contemporary spiritual paths are now firmly established in the West, there have been recent movements away from what may be termed 'traditional' courses of belief and worship towards systems reflecting an amalgam of Right- and Left-Hand Path philosophies and practices. Whereas, in the past, Pagans have generally advocated a common system of ethics, best exemplified in the line from the Wiccan Rede, 'An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will', a new breed of practitioners is not as convinced of the necessity to shun a darker path or more precisely, to fear it. What makes these new Pagans different from Satanists, however, is their desire for equilibrium between what may be crudely defined as 'white' and ' black' magic. While the movement towards a symmetry that nurtures the dark magic and meaning of goddesses such as Hecate, Lilith and Kali, is comprised of both male and female practitioners, males are the most frequent authors of texts that advocate dark or Nocturnal Magic or Shadow Magic with authors such as Konstantinos, John Coughlin, Timothy Roderick, Corvis Nocturnum and Raven Digitalis being the most prolific and influential.
